HAART Poland
HAART Poland Foundation engages in a fight against modern slavery through a systemic approach to the problem – from prevention to levelling the effects of human trafficking. These are the pillars of our mission:
Emergency assistance to those affected
We run a centre in Nairobi for survivors who are in extreme crisis. These are people who have managed to regain their freedom, but still need support on many levels to to recover from the trauma they have experienced. As such, we provide them with shelter and food, as well as care from a doctor, psychologist, psychiatrist and lawyer.
Building entrepreneurship
At HAART, we believe that it is better to teach a man to fish instead of giving him a fish, which is why the main focus of our work is to help people set up larger businesses and small companies. In this way, survivors of human trafficking not only become independent of outside help, but also create new jobs, positively impacting the lives of those around them.
Vocational activation of survivors
We help survivors to transform from victims of slavery to independent entrepreneurs. Funding from the Polish Aid programme has enabled us to award 50 grants among survivors to develop their own businesses.
In addition, programme beneficiaries receive specialised training in the basics of entrepreneurship, knowledge of Kenyan labour law, marketing and finance. The project aims to equalise professional opportunities for people who, as a result of enslavement, have been deprived of the possibility of education and equal participation in the labour market.
Education and spreading awareness of human trafficking
Through the trainings and workshops we conduct in partnership with HAART Kenya, we are reaching out to those most vulnerable to this practice. Awareness is being raised among communities at high risk of coming into contact with this type of activity. By understanding how modern slavery works, more and more people have the chance to avoid dangerous situations.
The HAART Poland Foundation was established in 2018 in response to the financial needs of HAART Kenya, an organisation that has been fighting human trafficking in Africa for 14 years.
The President of the Foundation, Radosław Malinowski, is an expert in anti-trafficking. He serves as a university lecturer at Tangaza University College in Nairobi, an African Union security consultant and a European Union collaborator on a project to engage peacekeepers to combat human trafficking. Since 2010, he has led HAART Kenya, an organisation that is a partner of the Kenyan government, the United Nations and the European Union in the fight against human trafficking.
Thanks to his commitment and experience, our organisation has access to reliable information on modern slavery, which gives us the ability to comprehensively understand the issue, tailor our actions to the current needs of those affected, and reliably report on the problem
At the moment, we are the only organization in Poland that draws attention in the public space to the issue of the development of human trafficking in Africa and provides financial support to organizations fighting this practice.
